Anne
I am a retired Coast Guardsman, former science teacher, minister’s kid, and onetime mom.
I write for a hobby and publish what I can. Someday I’ll write a book – or not. H. L. Mencken warns that “writing books is certainly a most unpleasant occupation. It is lonesome, unsanitary, and maddening.”
In the meantime, I help to plan, navigate, stand watches, interpret weather reports and data, handle dock lines, clean, act as tour guide, and do as little cooking as possible.
I love to swim.

Katie and Looper
We adopted Katie the Deckie from the Humane Society in April 2024 when she was six months old.
We think she’s a mix of black-mouth cur, Carolina- and coon-dog. Katie loves peanut butter, loves to run, and loves every creature she encounters.
We haven’t much tested her sea legs, though she seems to like being aboard and has done well underway and in the dinghy.

Looper came with us in 2023. He was a Carolina Dog rescue from Texas and did not like other people and some other dogs. It was a challenge to have him aboard, though we loved him dearly.
He passed away in early 2024. His spirit remains.

Pete
Pete keeps everything running, in shape, and on an even keel.
“Everything” means deck equipment, dinghy, engines, propellers, shafts, rudders, chains, lines, navigation computers, radar, depth sounders, safety equipment, generator, canvas, fenders, upholstery, expendables, flares, emergency equipment, batteries, electrical panel, alarms, gauges, steering, autopilot, and so on.
Katie and I would be lost without him.
And, he cooks.
